He is a featured soloist on numerous albums, T.V. shows and films. Robert has released four albums on his own Dark Delishious Music record label, and one on Upside Out records. He will be in the studio in the summer of 2002 to record his latest project. A straight-ahead jazz quintet record featuring all new and original material. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in the Los Angeles area, Robert came from a home in which music was an important part of daily life. His parents and three sisters are passionate music lovers. Robert entered college as a music major and aspiring drummer, but found himself drawn to the saxophone. Says Robert, "Once I held a saxophone and started to play it, something clicked, I knew I'd found my voice." Robert has studied under Bill Green, Lanny Morgan, Plas Johnson, Danilo Lozano, Herb Geller, and for the last fifteen years, Phil Sobel, leader of the West Coast Sax Quartet. In 2000 he began studying Lyle "Spud" Murphy's Equal Interval system of composition and arranging. In early 2002 he went to Havana, Cuba to study folkloric music at the Havana Conservatory as well as private studies with Jorge "Lele" Sorzano from "Los Van Van" and master flutist Richard Egues.

In addition to his teachers, Robert names his saxophone influences as Stan Getz, "Lockjaw" Davis, Zoot Sims, Lester Young, Maceo Parker, Charlie Parker, Lucky Thompson, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, and John Coltrane. "Some of my biggest influences," he adds, "have been the singers I've worked with, especially Linda Hopkins. She can do more with one note, than most singers can do with a bucketful. As for writers, I love Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, Vaughn-Williams, Duke Ellington and Antonio Carlos Jobim."

Robert Kyle has a variety of groups he has put together just for the right occasion. Choose from Latin/Brazilian, Jazz, Solo Sax, or Classical. Robert can do it all!

Latin/Brazilian Group:

The Robert Kyle Latin/Brazilian project-A dynamic five piece ensemble that features a fiery mix of the rhythms of Brazil, Cuba and Africa. Cool tropical melodies float over hot, hypnotic and pulsating rhythms. Along with Robert, the band features keyboards, bass, drums and percussion.

Straight Ahead Jazz Group:

The Robert Kyle straight-ahead project. A jazz quintet (or quartet) in the tradition of Miles Davis’ groups of the late fifties to mid-sixties. Straight-ahead and swinging jazz and blues. Joining Robert are keyboards, bass and drums, and if quintet, a Trumpeter.

Braziliando:

“Braziliando” plays an enchanting mix of Samba, Bossa Nova & Brazilian Jazz. Featuring the beautiful guitar playing and soulful vocals of Kleber Jorge, a native of Rio De Janeiro, singing in both Portuguese and English. Also from Brazil, percussionist Cassio Duarte adds the raw rhythmic energy and hypnotic pulse, playing a wide variety of Brazilian & African drums and percussion instruments. The lyrical and passionate saxophone and flute playing of Robert Kyle round out this trio. The members of “Braziliando” have been performing together for over 10 years.
They have become one of the favorite regular bands at The Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, and you can also catch them regularly around town at Vibrato, The Westin hotel, The Four Points Sheraton, Chaya Brasserie, The Crowne Plaza Hotel, and many other local venues. In the summer of 2004 they were featured by The Pasadena Jazz Institute for several “sold-out” concerts at The Terrace Theater in Pasadena, CA, playing a program entitled “Bossa Getz Remembered” featuring the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz. Their repertoire includes many of the classic Jobim songs such as “Wave,” “Triste,” “Corcovado,” “So Danco Samba,” as well as contemporary Brazilian composers like Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Sergio Mendez and Ivan Lins. They also perform original music from their own CD’s. In July of 2004 they finished recording their debut CD “Tempo de Brazil” and are currently in negotiations to release it on The Moondo Records label.

Jazz/Classical Duo:

Guitarist Riner Scivally and Saxophonist/Flutist/Percussionist Robert Kyle have been playing together for over 14 years. Their repertoire includes music from the Jazz & popular American songbook of the 1930’s through present day, and includes the music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern as well as contemporary composers and artists such as Stevie Wonder, Sting, Santana and many others. They also play music in the Latin/Brazilian genres from composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa and others. Besides playing Jazz, popular, Latin & Brazilian music, they can also cover much of the standard literature for classical flute and acoustic guitar when the occasion calls for it.

With their versatility and years of experience playing together, they bring a polish and ease to their performance that can only be reached through the long musical history and experience they have shared together. This duo is excellent when you are looking for something special and fun, but also something a little more intimate.

Solo Sax:

Imagine a lonesome tenor sax weaving gorgeous jazz melodies that float upon the open air. Picture a saxophone on the street corner 'Round about midnight. Solo saxophone creates a mood that evokes romance, solitude and mystery.

Class Sax - Sax Quartet:

The “Class Sax” Saxophone Quartet is modeled after the traditional String Quartet. Their repertoire includes transcriptions of works by Bach, Beethoven and Mozart as well as Twentieth Century composers Pierre Max Dubois, George Gershwin, Astor Piazzola and many others. They also perform many of their own transcriptions, original music and music written specifically for Saxophone Quartet. Their sound is very rich in color and timbre and has been described as somewhere between a string Quartet and the human voice.

The group features;
Brian Duran on Tenor Sax
Chris Jennings on Baritone Sax
Sherman Kang on Alto Sax
Robert Kyle on Soprano Sax
