About Kim Collins

KIM COLLINS, a Kansas native, comes from a musical family and grew up playing guitar, trombone and singing barbershop harmony with his parents and sisters. Active in choirs, Top 40 bands and musical theater throughout high school, he made jazz vocal singing & arranging his emphasis starting in college, receiving a degree in music theory & composition from the University of Kansas in 1978. Kim has arranged and composed for numerous vocal groups both professional and amateur, and for his own ensembles at Santa Barbara City College where he is an instructor of vocal and instrumental jazz.

Kim has vocal arrangements published by UNC Jazz Press, and recently publisher Four J's Music chose his lyrics to accompany music by the late, great composer Harry Warren. He is currently the Director of VocalPoint, a 12-voice select ensemble that performs both public concerts and educational programs for southern California schools. He is also active on the local music scene as a performer of both bass and voice, composer, arranger, session player and singer, voice-over artist, teacher, clinician, consultant and church music director. Kim lives in Santa Barbara, Ca. with his wife Debbie Denke, a jazz pianist, author & teacher, and their two daughters, Melody & Madeline.

About VocalPoint

VocalPoint is a 12 member, mixed a cappella ensemble that specializes in performing unique arrangements of classic and modern jazz & pop standards, as well as original compositions. The group's lush, close harmony can be heard in concert venues around the southland. Founded and directed by Kim Collins in 1999, VocalPoint has presented vocal jazz to almost all the schools in the Santa Barbara area. The performance branch of the Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation, VocalPoint is dedicated to bringing vocal jazz music education to elementary and secondary schools. Private clients include First American Title, Santa Barbara Foundation, CTX Mortgage, Toyon, Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, Children's Creative Project, Santa Barbara Jazz and Art Festival and the Santa Barbara School District.
